Bus Strike
Many families will already have heard about the scheduled bus strike on Friday 28 July between 2 pm and 6 pm.  Please consider travel arrangements for you and your children if you regularly travel by public transport to and from school or work.
School Opinion Survey
The School Opinion Survey is conducted each year by the department’s State Schools Division to obtain the opinions of parents/caregivers, students and school staff about important aspects of schooling.  The survey is designed to help schools identify what they do well and what they can improve.  The survey is comprised of:
-          Parent/Caregiver Survey for all families with a child enrolled
-          Student Survey for a sample of up to 60 students in Years 5 and 6
-          Staff Survey for all school staff and
-          Principal Survey.
The survey opens on Monday 31 July.  Invitation letters with your login details will be sent home with the eldest child in the family on Monday.  Only one invitation can be provided per family.  The survey will close on 25 August.  I would encourage all families to take the time to participate in this survey.
Tennis Court
The tennis and netball court works have now been completed and it is looking fabulous!  To ensure that we are able to maintain this facility, it will remain locked outside of school hours and tennis lessons.  Unfortunately, we have already had a number of reports of people climbing over the fence outside these hours, and this morning, we have found wilful damage to the gate.  I would ask that all families help us keep everyone safe and protect our new courts by calling School Watch on 13 17 88 if you notice any suspicious or dangerous behaviour in our school grounds.
Onesie Day
Congratulations to our Student Council on their fundraiser last Friday, Onesie Day.  Families donated 426 books to SmartMynds, set up by 2 girls at Brisbane State High School.  Maria and Yashi will sell these books at markets to raise money to help the homeless.  Thank you to all families who helped support this
community mined fundraiser.
The next Fundraiser from the Student Council will be Silly Sock Day on Friday 18 August.
Over the coming weeks, families will start to receive further information and instructions through a personalised letter, followed by an email inviting you to join the QParents secure online parent portal.  If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please contact our Business Manager, Annette De Vries.
Junior Sports Day
Thank you Mrs Jenny Collins, who returned from her sick leave this term and coordinated a colourful, fun and exciting Junior Sports Day yesterday.  Points will be tallied with Age Champions and overall house trophies being presented at Assembly on Monday.
Specialist Lessons
Over the past two weeks, I have spent some time in both Art and Music lessons.  I thought I would share with you some images as conversation starters with your children:
Philosophy in our School
Many of you would be aware that many of our staff attended Level 1 training for Philosophy earlier this year.  While all staff have received some training, to ensure consistency, other staff who have not yet received their Level 1 training, will engage in this on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 August.  This term, we have also engaged the services of Amy Eberhardt, to assist with curriculum writing in Philosophy.  This is a very exciting phase of our Philosophy journey and we are looking forward to working with Amy.
OSHC Tender
As per Departmental procedure, Dutton Park State School will be commencing a new tender process for our OSHC service.  This will occur over Term 3 and 4 and will be informed by the surveys of parents conducted by the P&C in 2016 and the YMCA recently.
