Our approach to Mathematics at Dutton Park State School is very much about fun and inquisitiveness, valuing the WHY and HOW over the WHAT. Our teachers deliver engaging and challenging activities which build success and confidence in maths.
We are working to develop the capacity for our students to own their responses, to defend their thinking, to build resilience into their ability to solve unfamiliar problems and – importantly – to change their position in light of new understanding.
DPSS has partnered with Rob Proffitt-White to further advance our Numeracy learning outcomes throughout the school. Rob is a respected and experienced change catalyst in translating research – particularly Numeracy – into everyday classroom routines and resources. He has developed innovative and creative ways to support teachers to plan, teach and assess all mathematical proficiencies and provides coaching and modelling for our staff and students.
The Australian Mathematics curriculum provides students with essential mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. It develops the numeracy capabilities that all students require in their personal, work and civic life, and provides the fundamentals on which mathematical specialities and professional applications of mathematics are built.
