Dutton Park is about 4km south of the Brisbane CBD, and lies east of the Brisbane River, opposite St Lucia.
Dutton Park was serviced by trams from 1901 to 1969, but now has a bus station (Boggo Road Busway) and two train stations (Park Road and Dutton Park).
The suburb was known as the home of the Boggo Road Gaol. The jail closed in 1996, and the building remains as a historical museum.
Dutton Park is now home to the Ecosciences Precinct which opened in 2011. The precinct is a research facility for the Queensland Government, CSIRO and the University of Queensland.
According to the 2016 Census the population of Dutton Park is 2,024 and the median age of the Dutton Park population is 32.
