Philosophy in the classroom
At Dutton Park State School we value critical and creative thinkers. Weekly Philosophy lessons provide the opportunity for students to ask questions, and explore and clarify concepts. Students and their teacher work collaboratively to search for meaning within a philosophical community of inquiry.
Doing Philosophy at Dutton Park State School is surprising and exciting. Our students never cease to amaze us with their capacity to think critically and creatively. During a philosophical discussion, children imagine, question, speculate, seek clarification, give reasons, draw conclusions, and come to a reasoned judgement. Students learn to listen to others' opinions, respectfully disagree, build on others' ideas, and construct new knowledge.
At Dutton Park State School we believe that Philosophy is the key to our students becoming lifelong learners who succeed both academically and socially and that the skills they learn apply to all of the curriculum areas.
